On any given night across the nation urban bicycle culture spreads infectiously through the streets and alleys of our cities. It challenges the contentment, social status, and faux-freedom of the consecrated car. Born of utility, stealth, and sheen, when it comes to getting around town whilst the party is on, a relaxed-fit bicycle is leagues ahead of designate-driven carpool gaggles scavenging for the closest parking spot.

Yes, urban rollin' with yer peeps yields newfound latitude in movement and whimsy. It's an unorthodox, provocative, even insubordinate answer to casual gridlock. And bikes build community at the street level. When was the last time you pulled your gas guzzler up on the curb to mingle with your homies at a sidewalk cafe? On bikes we become accessible to each other. We can see and be seen. Neighborhoods that bike together get psyched together.

Bust a move with Cruiser-Tuesday as we celebrate the free agency of two-wheeled movement through our congested urban districts. We bike-splice advocacy, arts and a lost flair for the street party. Any cycle with at least one wheel is welcome in this courteous mass. Use your bike as the social tool it can be. Get to know like-minded individuals. Groove to the sounds of open-air music delivered by bike. Cut loose, stop suddenly and dance on the sidewalk if the feeling overtakes you. Deliver yourself from the drudgery of car-culture. As if you were a kid again, take your act of going out on the town back to street-level! Go by bicycle.

1) In deference to the academic calendar, for December we cruise 12/8 and NOT this Tuesday, 12/1.

Reminder: Tomorrow is the first Tuesday in August. Only one more month to get your swelter on (thank goodness).

Two contrasts will be in play: A Theme and an alt. meet-up location (The Station @ 7:30pm)

We're theming this ride up under the guise of "World Tour". Interpret it however you see fit; through attire, by bike, etc.

We're losing a Cruz-Tuz faithful in Clean Machine's Rob Clites as he embarks on the mother of all cruiser rides--around the world! Best wishes Bobby!

July Cruise from Johnnie's

First Tuesday eve in July looks pretty darn pleasant for cruising (low of 64deg). To boot, there will be a local farm dinner whipped up at Johnnie's by Seth Elliott and Rob Segovia-Welch. They'll be grilling pizzas featuring only the freshest produce and meats from Keenan McDonald's Duck Run Farm.

Pies are grilled from 5-9pm. Cruiser-Tuesday rallies at 7:30pm. Come early to guarantee your pie or bank on the fact Seth and Rob will still have dough at 7:30.

Weather (29 deg.+wind Tuesday night) and the Monday NCAA Men's Hoops Title celebration are conspiring to push Cruiser-Tuesday to Thursday again this month.

Thursday 4/9 will be 70 degrees with no wind and a high Cruisability rating. Ride from Johnnie's as per usual. 7:30 Meet-up. Joe Romeo performs. Taco Cart is in effect as well.

Real-time short messaging services that work over multiple networks and devices might be the answer. Ideally we want folks to be able to step in and out of the flow of information as it suits them.

Why do Federales hold election day on top of Cruiser-Tuesday? It's an "agrarian thing". Not likely to change until we get off the farm.

Nevertheless, 11/04 we aim to pedal a few revolutions for change.

Change of scenery, at least.

Does Cruz-Tuz sound jaded? Perhaps. But as Emma Goldman said, "If voting changed anything, it would be illegal".

Three years ago August, Cruiser-Tuesday pedaled into cruiser bike history books with its inaugural ride.

Attire was "Funky Formal". We finished up at Reservoir on Brewer Lane, Midtown.

This coming Tuesday (8/5) we'll do it again. 7:30pm. Just like in `05, only we begin from Johnny's on W. Main, Sha-Carrbra. Semi Formal. Fully funky. More good times.

Ride Free or Die? Take a Freedom-Flyer

It's last minute but this Tuesday, TODAY, (7/8) come take a "freedom flyer" from Johnny's (sporting goodies) if your schedule is open. We'll pedal ourselves into town occasionally ringing 'liberty bells' (if you got one), swerving freely in and out of our urban districts until dehydration drives us to the Station at Southern Rail. 7:30pm Social.

Cruz-Tuz will return to more advanced scheduling for August. Sorry, we've been outta town on other bike adventures!

Fireflies and Junebugs: Livin' Easy (6/3)

We've had a pleasant Spring. Only recently has it felt like we can finally say, it's summertime ...when the livin's easy.

June brings goodness in our annual cruiser cycle. School's out, Summer Solstice arrives, Cicadas get chirping, Fireflies and Junebugs return. Fathers, Geminis and the Ole Stars `n Stripes are honored. The humidity slows us down a notch.

Get into the cadence of the 6th month with June Cruz-Tuz (6/3) @ Johnny's on West Main in Carrboro (now ABC permitted). Social hour begins at 7:30pm. Cruise at dusk.

Have You Hugged Your Bike Today?

Every month is bike month in Carrboro, but May is Bike Month country-wide! Ride to Work Week is 5/12-5/16. May simply goes all-out for bike lovin'!

This Election-Tuesday (5/6), Cruz-Tuz will stage its monthly renewal of bikey vows from the Station next to Southern Rail just as the polls close at 7:30pm. Don't forget to vote before you come.

Biking to work can be fun but cruising to socialize is better...Even a bad cruiser ride is better than a good day at work!

This Tuesday: Ask not what the bike can do for you....Vote! Cruise!

Cruiser-Tuesday rallies at Southern Rail's new expansion, The Station (house), this coming Tuesday 3/11 for a viewing of Quicksilver (1986, Starring Kevin Bacon). Opening credits roll at 8pm. Intermission will be in the form of a Cruiser Ride, after which we'll return to The Station for more cheer and the show's riveting conclusion, "Speeding towards the final - and deadly - showdown". Ten-speeding, no less! Bring your own popcorn. See you there.

For the Love of Hate: Tobacco Road Cruise 2/5

It's high-hoops season in the Triangle. This cooky ACC fundamentalism crescendos 2/6 with the first installment of the Tobacco Road Classic (A.K.A. Carolina v. Duke). Local author Bill Blyth says of the rivalry, "To hate like this is to be happy forever".

The night b/f the game (2/5) join other haters for a Cruiser-Tuesday bicycle tailgate/pep rally at Johnny's (901 W. Main) in Sha-Carrboro. The market is now open on the back side of La Tienda. Wear your chosen shade of blue and don't bring your Visa but do BYOB cuz the ABC permit is still pending there. The rally begins at 7pm.

Will Ride For Food on 12/11

Cruiser-Tuesday returns from a wee hiatus in December with a holiday ride to benefit the hungry. Come all ye Faithful to Johnny's Sporting Goods funky Tannenbaum Grove bearing 2 cans of chow for donation to Inter-Faith Council's tireless cause to feed our hungry. Johnny's is appropriately placed at the intersection of High and W. Main in Carrboro. The evergreen social begins at 7pm and the cruise by 7:45. Johnny's newest edition is a backside coffee bar. It'll be offering warm beverages and barely credible campfire stories led by cruiser regular Brian Plaster.

May is Bike Month

You may not be so green your bike gathers moss at stoplights but at least observe bike-to-work week one day during May 14-18.

To get in on all the free bike lovin' there will be a cruiser ride on Tuesday 5/15 with a Pabst Blue Ribbon tasting to follow.

In a bit of change-up, we will meet AND end at Archer Graphics on Main Street in Carrboro (formerly Honda Specialists). Rally time is 7pm, ride at 7:30.

Cruiser Tuesday rides on Thursday twelve-fourteen for December. University exams will be done by then and the alternate night will give those always working on Tuesdays an opportunity to ride.

Long johns, leg warmers and muff

The redo on last Tuesday's dance cruise rides this week 10/24. There's lots happening this night so the cruise is the perfect way to warm up on a chilly fall evening. Good weather it'll be to sport long johns or rock leg warmers. We socialize at 8:00, dance-cruise at 9:00

A simple segue to keep the grooves movin' post-ride will be to end at the 10pm Rosemary St. Nightlight performance by Philly Hip Hop/Disco/Punk band Pony Pants. With low ceilings and a tight book-ended dancefloor, its an intimate place to grind with 30 other sweaty beings.

Three of four Indy Picks for Triangle music on Tuesday are situated within two Carrboro blocks of each other. Of course, monolithic metal stalwarts, The Melvins are rocking the Cat's Cradle, but after that everybody's favorite bicycle bar, Reservoir, will be hosting a veritable afterparty with later night performances from Black Skies, Battlesnake and Bloodcow. Local 506 is featuring Decibully.

We had big plans for tonight but Momma Nature isn't on-board. We want to shoot some footage for this dance-cruise so we're officially bumping to next Tuesday 10/24. There may be a few hard-cores in the pkg lot tonight but we dance next week. Please pass the word along.

Guerilla Dance-Cruise this Tuesday

Cruiser-Tuesday rides 10/17 this month. And we aim to shake that booty.

Our goal is to take-by-bike several higher-visibility spots around town and dance for 5 min. at a time before moving on. Maybe we'll even momentarily subvert Chapel Hill's prime time reality? We refuse to be tagged social agitators or agents for change, though. October's bike path to liberation is merely to free our minds and hope the buttocks follows. So break free with CT. Lend pedal-power to the people. Give witness that Chapel Hill can dance.

Of course, this pleasure spin is still about the bike. A progressive dance-cruise is just another boisterous way to demonstrate two-wheel superiority for delivering us across the urban scenery when the party is on.

We'll assemble a bit later Tuesday to assist with the mood/stay on top of the swerve-curve. Social hour begins at 8:30pm. We cruise at 9:30.

Festoon bikes with blinky safety-strobes if you have them. They're not just dance-friendly, it's the law!

Arrrr, good times were had by all takers in september's cruise. Me parrot concurs that 50 mateys er thereabouts set sail at high tide from the Clean Machine. Grog hour (social) was extended on account of Pirattitude so we shoved off a bit late. Once rolling the urban high seas, there was no stoppin' the juggernaut -- not even a brush with the authorities would thwart full-sail. In the end, just twenty paces from Cat's Cradle we embarked on a chumbucket full of PBArr to quench a wench of a thirst and bid ourselves pleasure. Aye, mighty thanks from the top o' the crow's nest be hollerd to Archer Graphics fer lettin' us use their land fer the aftermath. If there be an easy rider that awoke Wednesday without the stinging on the brain o' a thousand jellyfish then we'll be keelhaulin the scum ridden weevil shagger on next month's ride.

All Wenches and Peg Legs beware! Next month (10/17) Cruise-Tues rolls through town on a Guerilla-style Dance party to be remembered. We'll predetermine 4 spots to "Flash-Dance" the night away. Suggestions are welcome and need be central. Brush up on your moves.

Ride Like a Pirate

Cruise-Tues happens to coincide with International Talk Like a Pirate Day this month. It's wicked fun to practice piracy so we encourage everyone to dress, talk and cruise like a pirate Tuesday 9/19. In today's proprietary world the term Pirate conjures up all kinds notions so traditional and twisted interpretations are encouraged. Find lots of resources at above link.

We also encourage folks to segue following the post-ride social to the M.Ward/Lambchop/Portastatic show at Cat's Cradle. Although the Independent proclaims Tuesday's Best Bet to be the $40 Nickel Creek show at Memorial Hall, those who know better will drop $14 in Carrboro for thrice the show. Indy does save face with John Schacht's informative feature on this Merge Records triple-shot. Get your tickets in advance.

The humid August ride went (and felt) swimmingly as ~45 quality folks came out for Charlotte Hord-Smith's unofficial birthday cruise. We have to give a shout-out to the Cup Cake Brigade for supplying carbo-loaded baby cakes to everyone. They went really well with a good IPA.

We always enjoy visiting Carrboro biker bar, The Reservoir. The 24ounce PBRs are always cold and Brewer Lane is easily accessible from the bike path.

Please accept our apology for the technical difficulty with the accompaniment. We are saving our pennies for a new rockin' sound system and hope to be back thumpin' the sidewalks by September's ride. Music by bike ain't easy, but it sure is pleasy.

Speaking of September, we are ready for the NEXT ROUND! the cruise date will be 9/19 and promises to be a Carrboro-cult-classic. The ride WILL be themed so be ready to don your creative caps. The Cat's Cradle will be hosting a veritable Merge Records' fest with M.Ward headlining and Lambchop getting folks wound up beforehand. Cruiser-Tuesday will do its best to host a post-ride outdoor party before the Cradle happenings. If you think you'll go to the Cradle show that night, get your tickets early.

Cruiser Ride This Tuesday 8/22

Summer is fading. Bring on the nightime low-70s again! Cruiser-Tuesday reactivates this coming Tuesday, 8/22. It's been a year since we mobilized for our first street fiesta. Hearken back with Phillip Barron's words or Jack Edinger's photos.

We are observing no theme this month but its time to catch up with friends and share summer escapades. Bring stories if you have them. As always, cruiser rides are a good time to get freaky so come unabashed. No theme doesn't mean no Freak. We love the fringe.
